Urban Planning: A circular City |
VioletView is a city on a system of islands far off the coast of the United States in the tropical Pacific waters. The islands were shaped into circles by years of erosion and man-made help to form the spherical shape for all four of the islands.
The cities themselves are based in rings that are separated by water. To travel between rings citizens must catch a monorail or walk across one of the many bridges that cross between rings. The outer ring is a seawall, to keep the island safe in case of storms or tidal waves. There are openings built for the navy and passages on and off the island that can be shut of in the case of a storm or outside attack. On the main island, the second ring is for clean energy and contains solar panels and wind turbines that are used to power the entire city and the monorails which run all around the city in the place of cars. The third and final ring is the main city, where the living and commerce take place. For more about this ring, peruse the rest of the pages like Healthcare, Finances, and Architecture. Monorails run through the city and stop in all rings. There are four islands in the VioletView Archipelago, the main island, which contains city and power sources, two other city islands for population, and a fourth island of size for agriculture. At the fourth island, which contains the farms that grow both food for trade and food for the citizens. the farms are built into a hill in a popular Himilayan style known as terrace farming. All islands are connected by a system of underwater trains. |
The education system in VioletView is much like the public education system in the United States. There are twelve grades split into elementary, middle, and secondary schools that are all located on the center island. There is one university for citizens, which is free and optional. At the end of secondary school, students take an aptitude test to determine the top five jobs that are recommended they do for the state. Some go to university to learn about their jobs like doctors and teachers, and others go straight into the workforce after shorter but thorough preparation. Special education is provided.
